TN Gamma enjoys the highest visibility of any student organization at ETSU; when new students begin acclimating to the campus, it’s hard to miss the house with the bright red door. Our annual cost-cutter weekend is an excellent opportunity for alumni and undergraduate brothers to connect and work together to refresh the chapter house for the upcoming year. Whether its muscle, materials or expertise, all help is appreciated.
If you are interested in participating, please contact AVC VP of Housing, Hunter Hess at 423-418-2031 or hunterhess18@yahoo.com. Hunter can tell you more about the projects we’ll be working on this year and what types of assistance alumni can provide.
Cost Cutter weekend culminates with the annual Frank Rutherford Balanced Man Banquet. Over two decades ago, brother Frank Rutherford (charter member #009) retired to Johnson City and became a valued member of the AVC. His mentorship and passion for academics led to the creation of Tennessee Gamma’s Balanced Man Scholarship. Today, the annual Frank Rutherford Scholarship awards banquet has evolved into a premier event among all ETSU student organizations. The ETSU administration consistently lauds the program as an exemplary example of how a student organization can partner with the university in seeking and rewarding academic excellence.
The overall objective of the banquet is awarding scholarships to incoming freshmen who have distinguished themselves in a combination of academics, student activities and community service (i.e. balanced men). Over time, the banquet has grown to include a scholarship award for the TN Gamma Balanced Man of the Year as well as recognition for all undergraduate brothers who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. In 2022 the Chapter was proud to include The Chris Mahan Scholarship award granted by the Department of Criminal Justice honor. This scholarship was created to honor our late brother Chris Mahan and is sponsored by his family. Additional TN Gamma awards are in the planning stages for the future banquets.
The 19th annual Frank Rutherford Balanced Man Banquet will be held in The East Tennessee Room (272) on the second level of the D.P. Culp Center from 12:30PM-2:30PM. This year’s keynote speaker is Brother Andrew Farmer #859. Brother Farmer is a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives and we are excited to have him speak to the chapter and quests.
Brothers, there is no better opportunity for you to observe firsthand what makes our fraternity “different” than to attend the Frank Rutherford Balanced Man scholarship awards. As always, several of ETSU’s top administrators will be in attendance. To reserve a seat, please send an RSVP to Julie Hall Simply state your name and “I will attend”. Feel free to ask any questions; dress is suit or coat and tie; a buffet lunch will be served.
